OTHER
SERVICES
Other
services provided by WRAAA include Care Management, Meals, Elderly Employment,
Legal Services, and various programs to assist with transportation, and
to protect the rights of Senior Citizens living in Nursing Homes.
CARE
MANAGEMENT
Caremanagers
work closely with clients and their families to assess needs and provide
assistance in attaining services. They will monitor to ensure the
client is provided with information and access to services as the client's
situation may change.
CONGREGATE
MEALS
Hot
meals are served to persons 60 and over at senior centers. Meals contain
one-third of the daily recommended dietary allowance. Participants are
asked to contribute toward the cost of the meal using the suggested contribution
schedule posted in each senior center. These contributions go toward increasing
the number of meals at each site.
ELDERLY
EMPLOYMENT
WRAAA
offers employment through the State Older Worker Program. Our staff assists
older persons looking for a job by linking them to area employers.
LEGAL
SERVICES
The
White River Area Agency on Aging offers Legal Assistance through contracts
with Arkansas Volunteer Lawyers For the Elderly (AVLE), Legal Aid
of Arkansas and a private attorney. There are age and income eligibility
guidelines. Cases must be screened by the Area Agency on Aging Care Manager.
Fee generating and or criminal cases are not accepted. Agency operates
in Fulton, Cleburne, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Sharp, Stone, Van Buren,
White and Woodruff Counties in Arkansas. Contact the agency at 1-800-382-3205
to talk with a Care Manager.
NURSING
HOME OMBUDSMAN More
A
Nursing Home Ombudsman is employed to assist institutionalized older Arkansans
in maintaining their rights, as well as the quality of their lives. The
Ombudsman visits with the administrative staff, nursing personnel, and
residents of all nursing homes in the 10 county area.
TELEPHONE
REASSURANCE PROGRAM
This
service is available in Jackson and Independence Counties. A daily telephone
call is made to check on elderly persons who are isolated or live alone.
The program is called "Are You OK?" and is monitored by county law enforcement
agencies. There is a very small annual registration fee and the service
is available to those 60 years of age or older. This is a great service
and peace of mind for family members who live some distance away from their
older parents or loved ones.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation
services are available through the senior center network. The first priority
of the aging program vans is to transport the elderly to and from senior
centers. Stops are made at local grocery stores, pharmacies, and food stamp
offices. The vans also transport persons to medical facilities and on recreational
outings.
