Attorney General’s Office to Present

Identity Theft Information for Senior Adults

Identity Theft has become a frequent and frightening problem for consumers.  The Attorney General’s Office will present an Identity Theft Information Seminar on how to avoid being an Identity Theft victim particularly for senior adults on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 10am at the Josephine Rogers Women’s Center at the White River Medical Center.

The seminar is sponsored by the White River Area Agency on Aging, Inc., the Attorney General’s office and the White River Medical Center. Jimmie Lou Fisher from the Attorney General’s office will talk about how identity theft occurs when key pieces of personal or credit information like a credit card, driver’s license, ATM card, or Social Security number are wrongfully obtained and misused.  It is estimated that there are around nine million cases of identity theft every year in the United States.

In honor of May as Older American’s Month, the White River Area Agency on Aging encourages senior adults to secure their personal information and become informed about Identity Theft.  For more information on the seminar call the Area Agency on Aging at 1-800-382-3205.
